Release Date: 2011-07-13
The Governor of the Irkutsk Dmitry Mezentsev met with Secretary of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Shmatko in Moscow. They discussed the establishment of gas-chemical cluster in the Irkutsk region.
As the head of the region stated gasification is a basic factor for the social and economic development. Energy facilities were always positioned as the core consumers of dry stripped gas, which accounts for 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas annually from the total projected consumption in the development of the Southern gas production center in Irkutsk region. However, the competition in the transfer of fuel in the gas generating capacity is currently focused on the use of coal deposits and is an economically unjustified measure. According to Mr. Mezentcev, it is necessary to consider the development of gas consumption without targeting power generation facilities. The governor stressed that the alternative consumer may be the gas-chemical complex with up to 2.4 billion cubic meters per year and which is aimed at obtaining a wide range of products with high added value.
Dmitry Mezentsev emphasized that the project will create an additional 3 thousand new jobs. The total volume of commodity products produced by chemical complex enterprises will more than 50 billion rubles per year, which would increase the contribution of petrochemical enterprises Angara in Russia's GDP. Head of the region appealed to the Minister with a proposal to support the initiative of the Government of the Irkutsk region in terms of a chemical complex.
Dmitry Mezentsev and Sergei Shmatko also discussed the prospects of creating a Bodaibo district of the Irkutsk region of new generating capacity. As the governor noted, only for the development of the richest gold deposits in Bodaibo district requires an additional 250 MW of generating capacity. However, the municipality is now a power shortage. Reported by Regnum.
