Eleven Russian companies in top-500 market cap list

Eleven Russian companies are included on the list of firms with the highest market values in the world. The yearly rating of 500 large companies, released by the London based “Financial Times” put the gas giant “Gazperom” at the head of the Russian companies.
This year, Gazprom occupies the 15th position, and its market value exceeds 190 billion dollars. Last year, it was put at number 33, and the breaking into the list of the first 20 by Gazprom is evidence that business in Russia is picking up momentum on the international market, says Agvan Mikayelyan of “Fin Expertiza” Consulting company, speaking in an interview for VOR.
“To large extent, it means that there are big consolidated companies in Russia, which have some weight in the world”.
They are world class players that can particip0ate in global projects, says Mikayelyan. By the way, it is a repeat of the pre-crisis situation. The old prejudiced perception of Russian companies is changing positively in the world, and there is a need to continue to build on this to change the erroneous perception for ever”, Mikayelyan said.
Apart from Gazprom, also on the list of the elite is the “Novatek” gas company, which dropped from 174 position to 200 within a year, the “VTB” bank, one of the biggest in Russia which remains at 236. The “Surgunneftgas” company and the “Novolipesky” metallurgy company are also on the,list. There are however several new faces from Russia on this year’s list of the global 500 elite companies. “Rosneft”, reportedly worth 100 billion dollars is unclouded on the list for the first time and occupies the 56th place, the “Lukooil” company is at118, “Gazpromneft” occupies 368th position and “Sberbank”, Russia’s largest bank is at 73.
Two metallurgy companies, the “Nornikel” and “Severstal” are equally included. Although not all the Russian companies occupy high positions on the global list of elite firms, nevertheless the Russian brand is becoming more familiar in the world year in year out, says Anton Struchenevsky of the “Troka Dialog” firm.
"The Russian economy is among the ten biggest economies in the world and naturally, the country’s companies can be among the largest in the world. For example, “Aeroflot” is now well known to foreign travelers. The Russian economy is developing fast, and is integrating into the global economy quickly," says Struchenevsky.
The American oil giant Exxon Mobile, with a reported market value in excess of 417 billion dollars remains at the head of the list of the 500 richiest companies in the world. It is followed by China’s “Petrol China”, while “Apple” places 3rd ., replacing the “Microsoft” company, which now occupies the 10th position. The list of 500 consists of the largest market cap with the exception of investment funds.
