Russia and Finland to jointly develop Arctic Shelf fields, 能源部

Working Group for Oil and Gas, within the 11th session of the Russian-Finnish Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, had a meeting at the Russian Energy Ministry on January 25-26, 2011. Russia was represented by Sergei Khrushchev, Deputy Head of Oil and Gas Production and Transport Department; Finland was represented by Mikko Niini. Other members of the working group represented the Russian and Finnish oil and gas companies.During the meeting, the parties discussed the current results and energy cooperation. Russian oil and gas companies reported on Shtokman project (Gazprom), Yamal-SPG (Novatek) and shared the plans to develop new fields on the Arctic shelf (Rosneft).
Representatives of Finland presented the Finnish innovations cooperation cluster "offshore" (IFCO) focused on drilling rigs, ships and floating production units. One of the presented offers concerned Finnish participation in the SPG (LNG) project on Yamal in Russia. The Finnish group also talked about the potential cooperation with Russia for geology, geophysics and environmental safety offshore.
Russia and Finland pinpointed the cooperation in geological exploration, development, production and transport of hydrocarbons, environmental protection and ensuring operational safety on the Arctic shelf in the frame of hydrocarbon development on Barents and Kara shelf, as well as future cooperation in ice equipment and shipbuilding.
Sergei Khrushchev, Deputy Head of Oil and Gas Production and Transport Department, expressed his satisfaction with the current results of Russian-Finnish energy cooperation and stressed that the development of the Russian Arctic energy resources, one of the priorities of Russia's long-term energy policy, will bring unique experience of operating in the Northern climate.
