"South Stream and North Stream will ensure Europe's energy safety as a source of stable energy supply to the EU under growing demand for hydrocarbons and limited resources. According to the European experts, the European gas demand before 2025 is to grow 195 bln cu. m equaling about 510 bln cu. m per year. To ensure this volume, EU will use all the available facilities and gas transport systems that are currently under construction", - announced Yuri Lipatov, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, at a meeting with the leading French media on December 15.
Lipatov says the importance of diversifying gas export routes and reducing transit risks for Europe are obvious: "South Stream and North Stream will link the suppliers and the consumers of gas which is an invaluable contribution in enhancing the continental energy safety. Meeting with the French media also covered the perspective gas supplies to Europe, Europe's growing need in energy sources, EU's Third Legislative Package, the changes in the global fuel and energy balance, the prospects of South Stream, North Stream and Nabucco, as well as the development of nuclear industries of Russia and France and Rosatom's global expansion.
