Vladimir Vovk: Russian oil and gas industry approaches reliability level of the space industry, 俄罗斯天然气工业股份公司

Release Date: 2010-10-18

Gazprom approves subsea production system for Kirinskoye field development under Sakhalin III project. This technology is unprecedented in Russia. Vladimir Vovk, Head of the Directorate for Offshore Fields Development Technology of Gazprom, explains why subsea production systems are safe and economically viable.
Development of subsea hydrocarbon production technologies began in the mid 1970s. Now there are over 130 offshore fields in the world that use subsea production technologies.

“The subsea production technologies are reliable, feasible, and environmentally safe as evidenced by accident-free operation in various regions of the World Ocean over many years,” Mr. Vovk stresses.

The subsea production technologies prevent significant risks in adverse natural and climatic conditions. Mr. Vovk is sure that freezing seas of Russia with navigation period limited to 3-4 months a year simply have no other option but these subsea systems.

Shtokman field development project envisages implementation of the subsea production technologies. These technologies will be used in the hydrocarbon field development projects offshore Yamal. The subsea hydrocarbon production technologies are promising for the Caspian Sea shelf fields as well.
