Medvedev inaugurates Kamchatka pipeline, Government of Russia

Dmitry Medvedev, President of Russia, and Alexey Miller, CEO of Gazprom, took part in the opening ceremony of Sobolevo-Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky gas pipeline during his working visit to Kamchatka on September 29
Sobolevo-Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky gas pipeline was constructed in the framework of creating a united system of gas production, transport and supplies in East Siberia and the Far East of Russia. The length of the gas pipeline is 392 km, with a productivity of about 750 mln cubic m of gas per year.

This pipeline is a gateway to the long-planned gazification of Kamchatka which will reduce the region's dependance on imported fuel and ensure energy safety.

During the opening ceremony, Dmitry Medvedev noted that the launch of the gas pipeline, being a major achievement, is the first step in the gazification of Kamchatka region. Medvedev also inspected the exhibition of the upcoming local projects and witnessed signing a few agreements concerning the electric energy.

During his meeting with Alexey Kuzmitsky, Governor of Kamchatka region, Medvedev continued the discussion of Kamchatka gazification project. The President has ordered the federal government, the local government and Gazprom to prepare a draft of gas supplies to all the households in Kamchatka.
