MDS Nordion to exclusively supply Russian Mo-99 to the global market, 俄罗斯国营核能公司Rosatom

MDS Nordion will become an exclusive supplier of molybdenum-99 produced in Russia to the world market, according to the general strategic cooperation agreement signed by JSC Isotope and MDS Nordion in Moscow on September 23.The agreement was signed by JSC Isotope Director General Andrey Silkin and MDS Nordion President Steve West in the presence of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Director General Sergey Kiriyenko and Canadian Ambassador to Russia John Sloan.
Under the agreement, MDS Nordion will become an exclusive supplier of molybdenum-99 produced in Russia to the world market. Supplies are expected to start in the first half of 2011. An amount of the supplied isotope will gradually increase.
MDS Nordion was chosen as Rosatom's strategic partner to promote the isotopic products in the global market due to its extensive experience in implementing such projects. The long-term strategic agreement between MDS Nordion and JSC Isotope also implies supplies of other isotopes produced by Rosatom. Less when in one year, JSC Isotope and MDS Nordion plan to establish a joint venture for the world market of hi-tech products for nuclear medicine.
“The primary goal of this agreement is to facilitate the shortage of molybdenum-99 in the world market while the isotope production reactor in the National Research University of Canada is stopped for scheduled works,” Sergey Kiriyenko said the signing ceremony. Rosatom, he said, guarantees high quality of products and reliable supplies. “We are glad that our work will help thousands of people who need high-technology medical care,” the Rosatom Director General clarified.
