Yuri Lipatov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Energy, and coordinator of Duma’s affairs with Bundestag, welcomes the joint session of State Duma’s Committee for Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Economic Committee of Bundestag: “this initiative is yet another link in the dialogue of Russia’s and Germany’s Parliaments”, noted Lipatov.
Yuri Lipatov made a special emphasis on Germany’s special role in the productive Russia-EU energy dialogue. He also noted that Russia understands the especial importance of its involvement in EU’s energy issues as the main foreign energy supplier to the EU.

According to Lipatov, “Russia eyes Germany as its partner of choice in energy and developing exchange of opinions within the different aspects of stable energy supply to Europe. Germany has always been the major customer for the Russian natural gas. Russia’s and Germany’s joint efforts for promotion of Nord Stream will enhance the guarantee of stable energy supply for Europe in the long term”.

Another important project that he named is the participation of BASF/Wintershall in developing the Yuzhno-Russkoe oil and gas field in Western Siberia with explored reserves of 825.2 bln cu. m of gas and 5.7 mln t of oil. Besides, Russia has supplied about 19.5 mln t of oil and 0.98 mln t of coal to Germany in 2009. Another important aspect in electricity is Russia’s cooperation with the German electricity companies in the framework of the European Electricity Grid Initiative (EEGI).
