Federation Council of Russia hosted a round table on increasing power supply reliability in the regions of the Far North of Russia on March 23, 2010
Members of the Federation Council, State Duma deputies, representatives of the federal ministries and authorities of the Northern regions of Russia as well as a few scientific institutions and power companies took part in the round table on power supply, ensuring power site security, modernization of power infrastructure and improvement of power supply security in the Far North of Russia.

According to the main speaker, Stanislav Dorzhinkevich, deputy Director of the Department of the Ministry of Energy, "The main task of the regional power policy is to ensure social and economic development of the Russian regions on the basis of safe power supply, minimal costs and acceptable impact on the environment.

The basis of the regional power policy in Russia are drastic differences of the availability of their proper power resources in the regions and, as a consequence, their dependence on each other. The main part of the regions currently do not have sufficient proper power resources, with the exception of the Ural, Siberian and Far Eastern federal districts.

Primarily, the regional executive authorities are responsible for regional supplies of fuel and energy. The federal authorities are responsible for creating the necessary environment, forming the necessary legal basis and coordinating the interregional power connections within Russia", noted Dorzhinkevich.
