A Bundestag delegation from Germany met the Energy Committee of the State Duma of Russia, headed by Yuri Lipatov, on October 6, 2009. Lipatov said that “Germany is Russia’s secure energy partner”. According to Lipatov, “A strong contribution of Russia and Germany in solving the problems of global and European energy safety is working together to promote the Nordstream pipeline that would enhance the guarantees of reliable energy supply of Europe in the long term. The Russian gas transit crisis through Ukraine in January has affirmed the economic feasibility of this project as the sole alternative”.

The Russian and German delegations discussed re-launching the Parliament internship exchanges for young specialists in 2010 and discussion of parliamentary cooperation in the sphere of environment and energy saving.
