Lipatov: construction of Akkuyu nuclear plant a strategic direction of Russian-Turkish cooperation , State Duma Committee for Energy

As Yuri Lipatov, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, announced on November 19 at a plenary session on ratification of Russian-Turkish agreement for construction of Akkuyu nuclear plant, "Construction of Akkuyu nuclear plant designed by Russia for Turkey is one of the main strategic directions of Russian-Turkish cooperation".It is important to note that Russia, as the contractor of Akkuyu project, is also its co-investor. Under the agreement between Russia and Turkey, Russia commits to supply electricity and Tetash, Turkish state energy company, commits to buy electricity produced at Akkuyu as of the start of its commercial operation.
According to the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, the conditions of Russian-Turkish cooperation comply with the full scope of interests of both countries, including the environmental interests. In this regard, Russian State Duma Committee for Energy recommends ratification of the Russian-Turkish agreement for construction and operation of Akkuyu nuclear plant.
The project company (100% Russian-owned at the first stage) is launching commercial operation of the first energy block in the course of 7 years after delivery of all the corresponding documents including the licenses.
Russian-Turkish project for construction of Akkuyu nuclear plant fully complies with Russia's national interests and the long-term interests of the Russian nuclear industry.
