TNK-BP Reports Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data for Four Years, TNK-BP

TNK-BP has announced that the company has for the first time reported official data on greenhouse gas emissions in 2005—2008. In 2008, greenhouse gas emissions by TNK-BP group of companies amounted to 22 million tons of the carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent which is 18% lower as compared to 2007. The released data illustrates a consisitent trend to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the company subisidiaries and can be viewed at the page Estimation of greenhouse gases emissions“.Climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions is a global challenge which requires a consolidated effort of state institutions and private businesses,” said Tim Summers, Chief Operating Officer of TNK-BP. “TNK-BP is stepping up its contribution to combating climate change through active work to utilize associated petroleum gas and enhanced energy efficiency in every aspect of our operations.”
In 2009, TNK-BP plans to bring an effective utilization rate of associated petroleum gas (APG) to 84%. In the next three years the company will invest about $700 million in APG utilization projects and achieve a 95% utilization rate in 2012. “Comparative analysis of greenhouse gas emissions per ton of oil produced or refined by international major companies shows that TNK-BP’s performance in that respect is internationally competitive,” said Evgeny Bulgakov, Vice President for Health, Safety and Environment of TNK-BP. “TNK-BP is the first major Russian company to disclose greenhouse emission data in compliance with international reporting requirements. This underlines our long-held strategic intent to set new environmental benchmarks in the Russian oil industry.”
