Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has ordered the Ministry of Energy and RusHydro to develop and present a plan of action to restore within 6 weeks the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydro power station (HPP), which suffered a deadly accident earlier in August. "The plan should be approved by a Government Decree”, Putin said after touring the site of the accident, according to a press release published in the website of the Ministry of Energy.
The Prime Minister expects that the future restoration plan should include a simplified scheme of operation at the HPP.

Putin also emphasized that the plan's implementation would require "reserving a sufficient amount of financial assets." "This money should be spent extremely efficiently. If the decisions are based on the newest technologies, we’ll be able to get new power generation for a relatively small amount of money”, underlined the Prime Minister, during a meeting with several ministries to discuss the accident at the plant.

Putin asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize production and priority supplies of power equipment and other materials to Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP.

Vladimir Putin also instructed the Federal Tariff Service, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Justice to put forward a draft Government Decree on the temporary introduction of a state price regulation regime on the wholesale electricity market. Putin said this temporary regime might be introduced for up to 12 months."The term of preparing the Decree is 3 weeks. We are to approve it by September 10”, declared the Prime Minister. Putin also called the Ministry of Transport and the Russian Railways to develop a scheme of coal supply to the thermal power plants that have experienced an increase in electricity demand following the accident at Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP. The Ministry of Transport and the Russian Railways are to provide transportation of 6.5 t of coal within the next 12 months.
