Ministry of Energy expands cooperation with Japan in energy efficiency, Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation

Russia’s Department for state energy policy and energy efficiency and the delegation of Sumitomo Corporation, one of the largest Japanese companies with large experience in developing geothermal projects, solar energy and implementation of energy saving technologies at metallurgical facilities, met in the Ministry of Energy of Russia on July 14.
Russia is interested in studying and expanding international experience in energy saving and energy efficiency. One of the priorities of the state energy policy of the Ministry of Energy is development of new prospective energy activities, reduction of environmental loads and implementation of energy efficiency projects. Cooperation aimed at information and technology exchange in the sphere of energy efficiency will enhance the development of Russia’s energy policy that envisages a 40% reduction of energy costs in the GDP by 2020.

Increase of energy efficiency is a major macroeconomic task; its successful solution depends not only on reduction of energy consumption but also on technological innovations.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged their opinions and discussed their vision of solving energy efficiency issues and defined the prospects of possible cooperation. According to Mr. Dorzhinkevich, Director of the Department for state energy policy and energy efficiency of the Ministry of Energy of Russia, such meetings allow estimating the potential opportunities in implementing energy saving technologies and establish the necessary contacts.
