Russian power plants produce 489.5 bln Kilowatt-hours in the first half of 2009, System Operator of the Unified Energy System of Russia

Release Date: 2009-07-08

According to the System Operator of the United Energy System (SO UES), energy output in Russia over the first six months of 2009 reached 478.3 bln Kilowatt-hours; consumption reached 470.2 bln Kilowatt-hours
SO data on the overall energy output in Russia comprises the output of power plants of the UES and power generation facilities located in the isolated energy systems in Taymyr, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Magadan, Chukotka and Yakutia.

Over the six months of 2009, total energy output in Russia reached 489.5 bln Kilowatt-hours, a 6.3 % decrease y-o-y, with 478.3 bln produced by the UES power plants and 11.2 bln produced by the isolated energy systems (a 2.3% production growth y-o-y).

The major share of energy accounts for the thermal power plants (TPPs), with an output of 290.1 bln Kilowatt-hours; production of hydro power plants (HPPs) increased 10.7 % over H1’2009 y-o-y and reached 86.1 bln Kilowatt-hours.

Nuclear power plants (NPPs) have produced 77.6 bln Kilowatt-hours over H1’2009, a 5.4% decrease y-o-y.

Power plants that supply industrial technological facilities produced 24.4 bln Kilowatt-hours over H1’2009, a 6% decrease y-o-y.

Energy consumption over Russia has decreased 6.8% over H1’2009 y-o-y and reached 481.4 bln Kilowatt-hours. In spite of the overall fall in energy consumption, this figure has increased y-o-y in some regions over H1’2009.

As for energy production in Russia, in June this figure reached 68 bln Kilowatt-hours, a 6.6% decrease y-o-y. UES power plants account for 66.7 bln Kilowatt-hours (a 6.6% decrease y-o-y); isolated energy systems account for 1.3 bln Kilowatt-hours (a 4.1% decrease y-o-y).
Overall energy consumption in June’2009 reached 66.8 bln Kilowatt-hours (a 6.8% decrease y-o-y).

In spite of the overall fall in energy consumption, it has increased in some regions in June’2009, as compared to the previous year.
