One of the priorities of bilateral talks is the development of power cooperation with Japan, including stable supplies of Asia Pacific countries with energy resources and enhancement of the global energy safety.

Issues discussed during the visit include cooperation in the Far East and East Siberia, including participation of Japan in development of energy resources and setup of refineries. The Parties have noted successful implementation of Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2, where Japanese companies have a significant share. That also concerns commissioning of a LNG plant on Sakhalin in February 2009 and start of regular supplies of LNG from Russia to the Japanese consumers in the framework of Sakhalin-2.
