Kalinin NPP celebrates 25th anniversary of 1st unit on May 8th., Energoatom Concern

Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the commissining of its 1st unit the 8th and 9th of May in Udomlia.
The Chief Engineer of the plant Mikhail Kanyshev told local journalists on May 5th that the plant has been proclaimed the third best among Energoatom Concern’s NPPs in the field of safety culture. “This year we are planning to continue our work to extend the life of the 1st unit,” Kanyshev said.
Director of Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant Leonid Martynivchenko Martynovchenko also announced that the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP was being constructed according to the schedule. The unit will be launched in 2011. “This year we are planning to build the dome of the reactor building and to mount the framework and the roof of the power house,” Martynovchenko said.
Kalinin NPP is situated in the north of Tver region: 125 km away from Tver, 330 km from Moscow, 400 km from St.Petersburg, on the southern shore of Lake Udomlia. The total area of the plant is 287.37 h. The plant has three WWER-1000 reactors (1000 MW each). Kalinin NPP is part of the United Energy System of Central Russia. Its electricity is transmitted to eight regions via two 330KV and four 750KV lines. The 4th unit is under construction and is to be launched in 2011.
