Hydrotesting of 2nd unit of Rostov NPP to start May 20, Energoatom Concern

Preparations for the hydrotesting and circulatory washing of the 2nd unit of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant are under way. Launch manager, Erik Pozdyshev, has confirmed that hydrotesting will begin on May 20 2009.
Over 1,000 nulcear specialists have joined the works in April to make sure that the reactor is launched according to shedule.
The manager of the project and the director of Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt Valery Limarenko said: “The May tasks are known: we are entering the final leg. Our project is important not only for Volgodonsk and Rostov region but for whole Russia. The 2 nd unit of Rostov NPP is the starting point of the large-scale construction of new nuclear reactors in our country. That’s exactly what Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said during the last meeting in Udomlia.”
The head of the Department for the Construction of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant Alexander Palamarchuk congratulated his colleagues on the May holidays and pointed out that the deadline for the commissioning of the 2nd unit remained unchanged: Oct 2009.
Volgodonsk NPP is branch of Energoatom Concern OJSC, 100% subsidiary of Atomenergoprom OJSC. The plant is situated in Volgodonsk, Rostov region. The 1st unit of Volgodonsk NPP with WWER-1000 V-320 reactor was commissioned in 2001.
Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt (NIAEP) is part of Atomenergoprom OJSC, a holding consolidating the civil assets of Russia’s nuclear power industry and offering a full package of products and services in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy: from uranium mining to nuclear reactor construction and power generation. The coordinator of the project is the branch of Energoatom Concern OJSC, Department for Capital Construction of Rostov Nuclear Power Plant.
Over 3,000 people are involved in the project present.
