Blue Stream

The Blue Stream gas pipeline is designed to transit Russian natural gas to Turkey across the Black Sea, bypassing third countries. The pipeline will supplement the existing gas transmission corridor from Russia to Turkey crossing the territory of Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.

The Blue Stream has substantially increased the reliability of gas supply to Turkey thus developing the country’s gas market and gas infrastructure.

The pipeline was completed in December 2002. In February 2003, commercial gas started flowing through the pipeline.

In 2005, the first phase of the state-of-the-art Beregovaya compressor station was completed and put in operation in coastal Russia. With the first phase of the station in operation, Turkey is sure to get the entire gas volume provided by the contract.

In 2007 Blue Stream supplied some 9.5 bcm of gas, with 7 bcm conveyed in 2006. In 2010, Blue Stream will reach its design capacity of 16 bcmpa.
