Kurchatov Institute

Russian Research Centre Kurchatov Institute first appeared as Institute of Nuclear Energy named after I.V.Kurchatov; Kurchatov Institute was founded in 1943 and was transformed in a research centre in 1991. Currently this is one of the major Russian research centres in nuclear science and in physics, uniting specialized institutes and research facilities.
Currently, main activities of the Centre are safe development of nuclear power, thermonuclear synthesis and plasmic processes; the Centre also does fundamental and applied research in physics, chemistry, industrial safety, ecology, IT and nanotechnologies. In the framework of Russian nuclear power engineering Kurchatov Institute is responsible for scientific coordination of projects.
